Austin, Texas Capitol Building

Austin, Texas is well known as the “Live Music Capital of the World” due to the many musicians who call Austin home and the many live music venues and annual music festivals that draw visitors from around the world.  Austin is also a great destination to hone your violin skills and make some beautiful live music of your own!

Austin has made national news many times in recent years for its vibrant, world-class cultural scene, and is home to many live performance theaters and art and history museums including Thinkery Austin (formerly Austin Children’s Museum).

Austin is a beautiful capital city, located along the tree-lined Colorado River and nestled within the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  The city has focused on supporting small, unique, local business so there is a unique culture in Austin that is very fun to experience and explore.  There are a number of great places to explore the outdoors, from Zilker Park with it’s 15 minute train ride along the water and through the park and the great playscape including a “music scape” where kids can play on a variety of giant xylophones, to Lady Bird Johnson Lake where you can rent canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards, Barton Springs Pool where the water is a constant 68 degrees, and many hiking trails in and around the city.  There are also many incredible food options available in Austin.  Visit the Housing and Food page for more information.  Visit the website for more information on things to do in Austin and for help planning your trip.
